Why You Should do Photography Projects!
Are you interested in photography? But is your camera getting dusty because you just don’t have the time to get out and shoot? Maybe it’s time to do a photography project.
Currently, I am trying to photograph the interior of abandoned and preserved prairie school houses. Here are a couple of examples of abandoned schools.
Photography Projects Motivate
Given what I mentioned above, you probably have already guessed that I view motivation as one of the main selling points for doing photography projects. In fact, the process of goal setting with concrete and measurable outcomes is commonly used to increase performance.
Psychologists use the method to treat patients. And corporations use the method to build staff engagement. So why not use it in your personal life? Why not in your photography?
Having a photography project goal with outcomes that you can use to motivate yourself is a great idea. It doesn’t matter what it is.
Shake off that Rust
One of the best reasons to start out on a photography project is personal development. Yes, the more you practice the better you become. Was it Malcom Gladwell that argued for 10,000 hours? Likely, I will need more than that to increase the level of my YouTube Channel.
Seriously, however, having a focused project can really help develop those photography skills. So you’re ready when you need them, right. Like at that important event or on that once in a lifetime trip.
You can also end up with a set of thematically related photographs that could be the basis of a portfolio or web page.
Photography Projects have Bigger Payoff
A project is bigger than just one photo. So, imagine when you take a fantastic photo. You’re super pumped right? Now imagine how excited you will be after you complete something that’s much harder. That takes more time. Maybe more effort. Maybe it took planning. And sacrifice.
I think the payoff for completing a photography project can be significant. It might even be motivation for that next even bigger photography project.
I would love to hear about photography projects you have completed, or you are working on now. Comment below. Help inspire others!
